You have a point there. I usually have a lot of materials on hand before I write. Perhaps that’s why I find reading before writing useful. Thanks Corey for your comment. I appreciate it.

I have to disagree, only in that when I read before I write, I find myself adapting to a tone of the things that I’ve just read, which has it’s own certain problems.

Reading is definitely important for generating ideas and getting inspiration. But I think reading RIGHT BEFORE writing is probably not the best idea when you’re trying to concentrate. You could get wrapped up in reading.

Of course if you’re synthesizing and combining different articles, having them on hand for reference is important.
